David Ruxton

Chief Executive Officer

David Ruxton is responsible for all aspects of the operation and growth of Optocap including business planning, finance, marketing and administration. David brings more than 25 years experience in product development, design management, sales, and product marketing to Optocap. He played a key role in two pioneering Scottish technology start-ups where he combined his technical and marketing expertise. He has worked on leading-edge hard disk drive developments ranging from 14 inch to 1.8 inch formats and managed products manufactured across multiple locations for sale in global markets.
Prior to joining the company he was a founder and sales and marketing director of Calluna, a developer and manufacturer of PC Card hard disk drives. Previously, he was director of technical marketing at Rodime, the Scottish company famous for developing the industry standard 3.5 inch hard disk drive.
David holds a BSc in Electronics and Electrical Engineering.

Bill Ashby

Engineering Manager

In his engineering manager role, Bill Ashby is responsible for technology implementation within Optocap. With over 20 years in the microelectronics packaging industry, Bill brings both technical and management expertise in package development and manufacturing.

Bill has worked on a wide range of packaging formats, and his achievements have included the development and implementation of a high performance TAB assembly process for microprocessor applications, and the design of industry-leading packaging for a range of high performance integrated DC/DC converters for Burr Brown and Texas Instruments. He has also worked extensively with offshore subcontract manufacturers and has an in depth knowledge of product qualification methodologies.

He has worked in package development and manufacturing for Philips, Digital Equipment Corporation, Burr Brown and prior to joining Optocap was engineering manager for Texas Instruments in Scotland.

Bill holds a BSc in Electronics and Electrical Engineering.

Stephen Duffy

Director of Sales and Marketing

Stephen is responsible for the sales, marketing and business development functions within Optocap.

Stephen brings a wide range of sales, marketing, business development and product management expertise from both the Microlectronics and Photonic industries. At NEC Semiconductors, Stephen was responsible for customer and applications support for their ASIC and DRAM product lines. He has been involved extensively in the product management and customer service for advanced solid-state laser products with Coherent Inc. Prior to joining Optocap he was Business Development Manager for optoelectronic start-up Intense.
Stephen holds a BSc Hons in Laser Physics and Optoelectronics

John Lynn

Chief Technology Officer

In his engineering manager role, John Lynn is responsible for technology developments within Optocap. Bringing over 17 years experience in microelectronic and optoelectronic packaging to Optocap, John's design and project management expertise spans a wide range of packaging technologies and processes, including BGA, MCM and single mode aligned optoelectronic transmitters and receivers. He has been involved extensively in the development of processes with offshore subcontractors and has comprehensive knowledge of product qualification and reliability testing techniques.
Prior to joining Optocap John was responsible for package development for optoelectronic start-up Intense Photonics. He has also worked in package design and process development for Amkor Technology, Digital, Hewlett Packard and Texas Instruments.
John holds a BSc in Physics.

Gordon Whyte

Operations Manager

Gordon Whyte joined Optocap in December 2010.He has worked in the high tech manufacturing sector for over 25 years. His experience is in setting up and running new manufacturing organisations, taking them through to high volume manufacturing operations.

Gordon has worked in Europe, Asia and North America where he was responsible for setting up five new operations. He has worked for, Whitestar Solar ltd, Little Optics Inc., Micro Photonix International Corp., JDSU, Seagate and NEC.

Gordon has set up and qualified opto-electronic and micro-electronic manufacturing lines for a variety of telecoms, consumer and defense products.

In his operations manager role, Gordon is responsible for operations and quality within Optocap including all assembly and test equipment and the operational infrastructure.

Andrew Thompson

Technical Sales Manager

Andrew brings a wealth of Technical knowledge to the front end of the
sales process, with the aim of reducing the time to manufacture for the
customer and to minimise the customer's exposure to the risks and pit
falls of the product development process. Andrew also works as part of
the senior management team.

He has extensive Optoelectronic design experience, that covers the
entire development cycle from the concept evaluation, through to high
volume production. With experience of high speed digital design, Thermal
modelling, 3D CAD, EMI design, on top of his knowledge of general
Optical product assembly knowledge, Andrew provides support to Optocap
Engineering team.

Prior to joining Optocap, Andrew was a Senior Engineer in the R&D group
at Hewlett Packard/ Agilent Technologies, developing 10Gbit Transceivers
for the Networking and Telecoms Industry. After spending time in the CCD
packaging team at E2V Technologies, working on products for the Space,
Military and Medical Industries, Andrew initially joined Optocap as a
project lead. He successfully developed several products, including a
High Voltage optical voltage sensor for unmanned Oil production
platforms and provided Engineering support for several customer product
lines.
